“ Portland, Oregon literally has a number of the best food experiences. We were visiting my wife's family and her brother recommended this Thai fusion spot and I am so glad he did. It's a cross of Thai and American BBQ and it is fantastic. The ambiance is nice, high ceilings and lots of plants inside. Seating is a little limited but flexible; it's ideally designed around a max party of 6. There's also a long bar that wraps around if you didn't want to wait. The menu design is done in a way to crush every dish they have. We ended up getting charred carrot salad, a small portion of the sweet and sour fried chicken, the wok fried yu choy, smoked pork krapao, white curry with brisket burnt ends, and massaman curry with smoked lamb shoulder. We also got the coconut panna cotta and a POG shebert to share. In particular, I was blown away by the smoked pork. I've had a lot of belly but they did a fantastic job: a crispy top layer of skin, a soft, melting fat layer and then tender pork. But honestly every single dish was excellent. My massaman curry with smoked lamb shoulder was also phenomenal. The curry was slightly sweet and allowed the smoky flavor of the lamb shoulder to accentuate and serve as the counterpoint. The bottomline is put eem on your to go whenever you're in the area. It really showcases the power of great fusion and it definitely deserves to be part of your regular dine out rotation. ”
“ tl;dr while the entire Thai-BBQ fusion menu sounds exciting, you cannot miss the melt-in-your-mouth brisket burnt ends Even at first glance, EEM and its Texas-Thai BBQ fusion sound eclectically exciting and quintessentially Portland. The name EEM (which translates to "satiated" in Thai) doubles as a reference to the first names of the respected Portland chefs behind the collab: Akkapong "Earl" Ninsom, Eric Nelson, and Matt Vicedomini. Since opening in 2019, EEM immediately achieved critical acclaim; the Oregonian magazine awarded EEM 2019 Restaurant of the Year, and it was a James Beard Awards semifinalist for Best New Restaurant the following year. Nowadays, it remains a wildly popular dinner spot. The corner shop sports wide, garage door-style windows on both sides. The restaurant maintains many of the building's original bones, including the exposed rafters and the polished concrete floors. Laminated wooden tables are pressed against the tan-cushioned half booth to the left, while bright yellow stools line the bar counter within. Lush, exotic houseplants deck every tall surface and hang down from the burnt-colored walls. Contemporary R&B plays prominently in the main space, while, psychedelic Hindi music rings in the bathroom. My partner and I visited EEM for an early weekday dinner after an arduous drive from Crater Lake, but we were able to immediately secure an indoor table. We arrived not a moment too soon, as a queue soon began to form down the block. We started our meal with the Thai-Style Ceviche. The unquestionably Thai-inspired marinade punched us in the face with a tom yum-esque flavor and left us with a hint of lingering heat. For our main course, we opted for the signature White Curry with Brisket Burnt Ends. The creamy coconut-based curry seeped into the smokey burnt end chunks, yielding a deliciously rich, melt-in-your-mouth product. To drink, we shared the virgin Approved By Chef, a surprisingly cucumber-forward yuzu mocktail served in a whimsical parrot-shaped mug. Service was equal parts friendly and helpful, and our bill ran $55 (after tax and tip). Although the light meal left more "content" than "full", my partner and I agreed that EEM's burnt ends were one of our most unique and favorite bites in Portland; EEM is worthy of a dedicated visit for this dish alone. ”
“ Very good sushi. The service on a Wednesday night was quick and friendly. Nice chill vibe. ”
“ Came here for dinner on a Sunday night. I was a little confused as there are 2 dinning areas. You have to check in first at the main one on the corner. We sat at the bar within 10 minutes. It was insanely busy with dine and take out orders. We ordered a couple drinks. I got the "Arranged Marriage", I did not like it. The brown murky color made it hard to drink. It was not very appeasing, reminded me of brackish drinking water. My husband got their version of an old fashioned, he enjoyed it. Now, for the food. Everything we got was perfection. We both really LOVED the white curry with the melt in your mouth meat. It was amazing! The bbq fried rice was great as well. We got the boneless chicken and that too was delicious. The ambiance is fun and lots of energy. *** Please STOP serving blazing hot soups, fried rice and fried chicken on CHEAP PLASTIC PLATES. The underneath of the plate says to not place items hotter than 100*. Everything that is served is hotter than that and is a huge health hazard. The plastic plates are not enhancing the dinning experience but rather hindering it. The food is truly a must eat. Personally, I won't be back until they serve food on different dinning utensils. ”
“ This is such a perfect date night/girls night out spot. Great vibe. Great drinks. Very fun. Loved our server. Dishes came out very quickly (impressed given this was a Saturday night ). They don't take reservations but we came in 7ish on a Saturday and only had a 30 minute wait. They will text you when your table is ready and allow you time to walk back to the restaurant. This is not traditional Thai, which based on some reviews I think is important to have in mind going in. That said, everything that we ordered was delicious! The fried cauliflower had such wonderful flavor, a more mild heat but just enough without requiring one to chug water after. The ceviche is a must imo. The broth/sauce it comes with is lick the plate good. Mushroom fried rice had some nice elements. The mushrooms and veggies in it had a but of a smoky char to it which gave the BBQ influence without having any meat. Both desserts were lovely in flavor and texture. Definitely do not skip. In terms of the drinks - very much a fun part of the evening. They have a lot to choose from. Anyone that is an espresso martini fan must order the black silk stocking. Probably one of the best I have ever had. So smooth so drinkable and really unique with the coconut and brown sugar. Yum. Writing this made me want another lol Highly recommend for a night out ”
“ White curry They're famous for this curry and for good reason. It really smacks you in the mouth with flavor as the brisket melts in your mouth with tender loving care. Field salad The fried shallots, the coconut chips, and that dressing was unlike anything I've ever had. Brisket fried rice Too salty for me, but my friend loved it. Fried chicken Glad I tried it, but I wouldn't get it again. It just didn't standout compared to the amazing curry and field salad. ”
“ We popped into Eem for lunch on a recommendation & it didn't disappoint! We tried the Approved by Chef Yuzu Bliss mocktails, they were bright & refreshing. The perfect drink for a warm sunny day! For mains we shared the very spicy papaya salad, true to its name it was full of flavor with a nice kick...we also shared the roasted mushroom fried rice, and the white curry with brisket burnt ends. The curry was the reason we came & definitely our favorite dish. The brisket was melt in your mouth tender, and the curry was super savory. We were stuffed but decided to make room for dessert, the coconut panna cotta was light & we loved the icy mango granita topping. Great meal! ”
“ Everything was delicious, good service good vibe great food. Would go again, white curry was phenomenal, salad was very hot but good eat, refried rice was great but lack a bit of flavor. Drinks comes in unique and fun packages ”
“ This is one of the top spots I've bookmarked since we moved to the PNW. We finally got to try this spot and it didn't disappoint. Everything was so flavorful. The bbq fried rice was tasty and paired well with the white curry with brisket burnt ends. The curry was a little too spicy for me. I thought some items had a little too much salt but it's most likely good for most people. It was a great spot overall and we will plan to be back. Parking wasn't too difficult on the street but we also came slightly after lunch. ”
“ Thailand? Texas? WHY NOT BOTH? I heard this place fused Thai food and barbecue like a pro, and the rumors are true. Expect traditional Thai curry with some brisket, or pork belly burnt ends seasoned like a Thai krapao. Amazing flavors, perfectly prepared meat, and some spice to keep it interesting...what more could you want? One of the most unique and delicious meals I've had in Portland, definitely worth a visit! ”
